Healthy Homemade Turkey Treats

These are my go to training treats, easy to make and most dogs love them.

You will need a ¼ sheet cookie sheet (about 12” x 9”) with raised edges or a 13” x 9” baking pan.


1 ½ lbs. ground turkey meat, I use 85% lean.
2 large eggs
2 Cups plain, unflavored bread crumbs


Preheat the oven to 350°.

Line your pan or cookie sheet with aluminum foil.  Coat the foil evenly with oil (olive, safflower, and vegetable, or whatever you like to use).

Mix the meat and eggs until it is all nice and slimy and combined well.  Add the breadcrumbs and thoroughly mix.  It will be a stiff mixture.

Pat and firmly press down evenly in the lined cookie sheet.  Smooth out the top and make sure there are no cracks.

Bake in the oven for about 40 – 45 minutes, or until the edges brown and pull away from the pan and the top is golden brown.  Mine gets bubbly/foamy all over the top, but that disappeared when they were cool.

Let cool completely before cutting.  I like to cool them overnight in the fridge.   Cut up, put in zip seal bags.  This makes quite a bit, so I freeze any that I won’t be using in a few days.

For quick cutting, I turn over onto a cutting board.  Using a chef’s knife cut it in half.  Cut each half in half.  Cut each of those in half again, and then cut into strips.  Keep the strips all lined up against each other and turn it, then slice across the strips into little cubes.

Keep refrigerated or freeze.

You could experiment and add other things, some grated or pureed carrots or other vegetables or maybe some parmesan cheese.  Be careful how much you add as it may change the consistency and make a more crumbly treat if too much is added.
